why australia needs white castle and how we condense down our appreciation of anime into “more than it is”

i don’t actually know anything about epistemology other than entry-level xD sceptic hypothesis but let me tell you about bullshit

whenever the fuck i read a book i’m personally quite interested in overexpanding on the content for more value than its worth; it lets me reflect on whatever texts i’ve read / written on and then i can always seem like i know a lot more than i do. people are fucking intimidated by big words. one of the reasons word counts exist on essays in academic structures is to prevent individuals who would otherwise write ever-expanding bullshit and bluff their way to a degree from being able to get away with that (but, of course, the bar needs to be set at a specific point – and considering the epidemic of idiocy, that’s quite low ~ although farfie would have you believe that everyone is a beautiful individual, he’s a cunt for it, just go listen to Tyler Durden’s speech and then rant in your little head for a while about how you’re not and see where it leaves you) and instead cram their thoughts into a more manageable, malleable and refined fashion (incidentally, academia will kill you). anyway, overexpanding.

its the same with anime, or at least, that’s why im watching less of it lately. one of the reasons i think (and i do, whatever my prose would have you think otherwise) shounen sits so well with younger people is we’re much more impressionable  and can see more themes that we enjoy in bleach, naruto and so on. as we become older and more cynical we start to determine that we’re meant for better things, so we read edgy people (like nietzsche, and like watching sakamichi no apollon). at this point, /a/ (stand-in for animefags) diverges into two extremes:

  • those who have given up on meaning and like cartoon girls doing cute cartoon things (or just amusing shit; lupin goes here)
  • those who havent given up on meaning and insist upon seeing sincere deep characters doing things with greater impetus and resolve as a result of a history of generation their character, or in other words, depth

as for me, i’m of the mindset that fuck both – eventually, the second one becomes destructive and has to leave the anime field. it’s only so long that one can sustain pretentions of being deep while watching cartoons. i don’t want to say that you can’t analyse things, or that meaning is anything more than what you make of it (<insert postmodernist bullshit here>), but that holy shit i’ve gotten bored of trying to look for it. it gets to the point where, of the three different solutions for the absurdist dilemma that Camus posits in his Myth of Sisyphus, that you can’t dismiss suicide & philosophical suicide (killing yourself or adopting religion as a cure to failing to find meaning in real life) from the maintaining of the pursuit; they’re all ‘leaps of faith’ in a sense, and most extremely anime; you’ve really got to take for granted that there’s meaning there.

or maybe the correct path isn’t to take any meaning at all and just enjoy things for what they are. but who the fuck would be happy with that? don’t you all have the stream of thought that “man is made for better things” or that we should “BECOME HARD” for the sake of a gloriously phallic parable (google: The Hammer Speaks)

anyway, the line of thought I’m trying to build up is something along the lines of a discussion of the following image, which I’m sure you’ve all seen too many times (if you’re a social media fag especially, but I’m not, because (here’s a joke) man is made for better things)

in a sense, to enjoy anime, you have to imagine that the curtains are more than blue.

in another sense, you just sort of tell yourself that it doesn’t matter and watch mildly amusing shit for the sake of being mildly amused. has anyone ever actually sat down, with a chinese cartoon, and found some incredibly gripping meaning in it? and don’t you go fucking commenting on this shit as contending “naruto is full of deep and important meaning” because its not, of course its fucking not, why the fuck would it be, its just supposed to be cool and you’re overdetermining content into meaning whenever you try to discuss themes.

maybe i’m fucking with the ‘real’ too much, maybe i should let you enjoy cartoons (maybe there’s a part of my mind that is specifically fearful of articulating my thoughts in a highly developed and formidable prose fashion for the basis of either not wanting to disturb your enjoyment – because why would you be on farfie subs if not for anime – or being fearful for your enlightened – maybe im being a cunt, maybe not – criticism of my thought processes). whatever the case, if any of this made sense to you, i hope you’ll all sign the following petition:
